Burkina Faso Strengthens Rice Industry with Advanced Optical Sorters
On Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Bobo-Dioulasso (Hauts-Bassins region), the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, officially handed over high-performance optical sorters to rice mills across Burkina Faso. The ceremony was attended by key government officials, including the Minister Delegate for Animal Resources, Dr. Amadou DICKO.
Speaking at the event, the President emphasized the importance of this initiative in enhancing Burkinabe rice competitiveness. He symbolically handed over the catalogs of the optical sorters to representatives of the rice mills.
According to Dr. Abdourasmane KONATE, Special Advisor to the President on agricultural issues and food self-sufficiency, these optical sorters feature cutting-edge technology capable of removing impurities and calibrating rice with unmatched precision. He highlighted that this innovation will enable Burkinabe rice to compete in quality with imported varieties, marking a significant step toward food self-sufficiency.
Mr. Seydou KONATE, President of the Rice Innovation Platform in the Hauts-Bassins region, welcomed this development as a milestone in promoting national products. He reiterated Burkina Faso’s commitment to achieving food self-sufficiency and enhancing the visibility of its agricultural products in both national and international markets.
To ensure the effective use of the optical sorters, training programs will be provided to the beneficiaries. Additionally, awareness campaigns will encourage citizens to consume locally produced rice, supporting the national rice sector and reducing dependency on imports.
